Bo-Rain

I had meant to post something today as seeing my blog, it’s beginning to look my 2011’s dry of posts. :) Okay so my first post will be mid March for 2011 not bad right? Hope I can keep up and move my laziness elsewhere this year. You can expect if I travel, it will be here so yeah I’m yakking my Boracay trip this time along with the tsunami and earthquake that hit Japan last March 11. I won’t emphasize the disaster though it’s depressing. Japan’s amazing they have fewer casualties than I had imagine. If this happens here in my country I’m pretty sure we’re wiped out. So moving on our BORA trip is scheduled Mar 13-15 and the 9.8 magnitude quake and deluge happened on Mar 11! You know I’m beginning to think the 2012 conspiracy movie is coming to live in action! I saw this news live because I have a habit of visiting inquirer and CNN at work. (Yes I don’t have much work to do!) One of my friends is actually thinking of not coming to our trip since our country was on ALERT LEVEL 2 for tsunami signs. Fortunately my rational brain works all the time and with the help of google, I verified that BORA is lying on South China Sea and not on the Pacific coast! I’m pretty determined to pursue this trip! I’m thinking I paid it anyway, if you die then it’s your time! Anywhere else in this world isn’t safe anyway! I personally think you have a better chance of survival than being mugged in Manila. :P (yeah not true) I know it’s not a good time but there’s no point in sulking this depressing news at home. Life goes on.

So fly we go to Kalibo! Hmm yeah wrong move I know I should have chose Caticlan airport but unfortunately I couldn’t find it in CEBU PAC’s list of destination. (Because they put BORACAY instead of CATICLAN on their site and someone has to tell them that Caticlan is still Caticlan despite it being near to Boracay.)

We arrived at 3pm I think on La Carmela de Boracay, the people’s choice resort (My friends and I choice I mean!) and we were so hungry we just stuffed our bags in our room and left to eat. J The island is mapped out with places’ named as stations. I’m not sure what station we are but we pretty much walk a lot. :) I was fascinated with all these stalls, restaurants and activities lying around. It’s like a mix of Divisoria and Timog Island with a beach. Well we spent a lot on food! We’re all thinking of eating sea foods I mean we’re already there right? We ate at this place somewhere called The Talipapa. It’s DAMPA version of Manila. :)

After eating we explored the Talipapa and I shopped for souvenirs for my officemates in Lawson. It’s a cell phone charm designed with Boracay white sand filled in a small bottle. Pretty neat. :) And then back to the resort to rest for a bit.

La Carmela’s not so bad including the rates. :)

Well at 7pm it’s dinner time again! I know we just ate but.. anyway..  it was raining a bit so we decided to avail the buffet and Mongolian dinner at the resort. After that we went exploring again hehe.. The Mall, The Talipapa the word THE is everywhere in the island huh? Good thing it doesn’t rain there during the night. We walked all the way to Jonah’s shake. For your information it was far from our resort, but I didn’t feel it because I was fascinated with all the stalls. :) Finally got a taste of that famous Banana Choco Peanut from Jonah’s shake.

Going back to the resort yes that was around 11pm we were able to catch the fire performers live show. I forgot their group’s name so I’ll just call them fire performers haha. :) It was amazing they’re dancing around with one of those medieval like weapons like Nanchakus only with a flaming iron ball at the end! (Sorry I don’t know the weapon name. :P) All you have to do is give any amount after the show and you can strike a pose with them as yourbackground. Swinging the fiery thing. Ahaha scary if you get hit not that it ever happened before though! I guess as a group we gave Php300. It was worth it.

Then we just chilled with a bucket of SM Lights. We’re not fans of beer so just a bottle each will do then at 1AM we went back to La Carmela.

The next morning we paid for buffet breakfast even though we have complimentary breakfast. What can I say I went straight to the buffet table. I’m a breakfast person so I must eat after waking up. :) After that we availed packages supposedly, we were going Helmet Diving, Zorbing and trekking using ATV but there goes the rain again ruining our plans and the Zorb and ATV ended up as cancelled! (better than be caught in an accident with slippery roads!) Rainy days with Bora! You know we spent waiting for 3 hours for our turn for that helmet diving! They have this station in the middle of the ocean and it was wavy! I threw up all I ate so I would feel better. I threw up because it was like that wavy for 3 hours! If we’ve only known we should have waited on the shores and just come if it’s our turn. Well it’s not that deep, there are professional divers to assist you as you descend. (It’s about 12-15 ft) You use the ladder from the station to go down adn you have to use them as you will go straight to the bottom if you don't. Before going down you’ll be oriented and you’ll learn different ways to take out pressure (if swallowing doesn’t work) along with using diver’s hand signals as communication below. The helmet is heavy! It weighs 30kg on the surface then 2kg underwater. My shoulder was being pushed backwards to the bottom sand, it was hard to balance the weight. You’ll stay there for as long as 20mins and they’ll give you bread to feed the fishes and take pictures along with a video of your group. Breathing isn’t tough it’s like normal breathing on the surface.

It was already 2pm when we went back due to the long wait! So we rested a bit in our room because of motion sickness while waiting for M and A’s Henna tattoo to dry. We had lunch to this restaurant somewhere in the Mall called Gasthof I think. The ribs were great! Better than Racks in my opinion.

After late lunch we talked this kid into making us a sand sculpture but unfortunately he said it was already banned. The big castles and lantern sand patterns are banned.. So we have to settle for something smaller and here it is. The kid’s got talent, using only a spoon to shape sand! :) Well we just gave the kid Php100 for that haha.. he must be disappointed if he was expecting a lot.

Before ending our last night at Bora, we had Swedish and Shiatsu massage and believe me the next morning my body hurts! Abused from the rain, all the walking, the wavy station and the massage! I’m summing things up because I noticed my post is too long already! It’s like 3 months’ yak missing entry went here.

And before ending this I will mention not to go eating and drinking fruit shakes to restaurants near Kalibo airport! 3 out 5 casualties (casualty is our lingo for people in the group with misfortunes!) due to diarrhea and stomach pains! The water used must be tap. In my case I caught fever and a hell of muscle pain and hell stomach pain. I felt like I had colon cancer or something! Yes I’m not exaggerating but it was that painful. Never drink Imodium if you ate dirty food. It’s better to let it all out. I felt better after barfing. :p Anyway I won’t elaborate the ewwness anymore. Just be careful what you drink outside, it’s a good thing I’m always prepared when travelling and have medkit ready. Next stop is Palawan and hopefully Camarines Sur Water Sports on August and September. If the world doesn’t end that time. ;)
